I bought this book called Pro JavaFX Platform, by James Weaver, Weiqi Gao, Ph.D. Stephen Chin and Dean Iverson. Its purpose is to teach the reader developing application using Sun's new kid, JavaFX.
The introduction is very interesting. Especially the first paragraph is very interesting:
" What an exciting time to be a software developer or designer! opportunity is all around us. Never before have there been so many platform capable of delivering compelling user experience that utilize rich media and rich graphical interfaces. Whether you develop for the computer desktop, the Web, today's more powerful mobile devices, or even consumer electronics devices such as TVs, you are in the middle of a revolution in the way we think about designing the interactions between people and their devices. And these people!
Now that they have tasted the forbidden fruit of rich interfaces, they have come to expect (no, demand!) compelling experience from all of the software they use. An interface that is engaging, attractive, and (dare we say it?) even playful can be the difference between success and obscurity for an application or mobile device. Your customers have seen the likes of the iPhone. If you can't give them an equally rich experience, your application, mobile device, or fancy new piece of electronic equipment is in very real danger of debuting to the resounding silence of indifference."
It is soo true. Look around you! Everything has fancy interfaces, that are easy to use and nice to look at. As a consumers we started searching for software ( or mobile devices) that have really cool user interface. We pay more attention to the look of the "thing" that we are buying that to the functionality it provides. If we have to choose between two products, both having almost the same functionality, but one is a bit less graphically pleasant, we will choose the prettier one. Even if it provides a bit worse performance.
What dose it have with developers? Now we have to couple with graphic designers, their job is to design rich and cool GUI. It might be the point that will lead for the product to be more successful. And that is what gives us money:))
So people spend more time developing GUI!!!!!
Cheers
